Have just had a report that 4 Lucas Drilling prime Movers and a number of Utes are in the Metgasco yard. This is a RED ALERT. However given the Police usually don't bust out blockades on a Sunday (Wages overtime).......................Monday is our likely day.

However our Casino watch system at the yard is on the job and we will know as soon as there is significant movement.. Stay tuned and if you can commit to 2 or 3 days or more of camping action ...........we will need numbers. Come prepared to be self sufficient if necessary. Remember non violence and we may be moved on today but we will be back tomorrow. Regards Ian

Subject: Richmond Valley Council Sneaks in "Positioning Statement" on Coal Seam Gas

Media Release 19th December 2012

Richmond Valley Council Sneaks in "Positioning Statement" on Coal Seam Gas

According to Lock the Gate Northern Rivers, Richmond Valley Council’s
(RVC) position statement released yesterday completely fails to
represent the majority of the community who are overwhelmingly opposed
to coal seam gas. Locally based Richmond Valley Group Against Gas
(RVGAG) has slammed the statement as another example of the council’s
arrogance, secrecy and subservience to the gas industry.

“The positioning statement is largely a weaselling statement and has
been issued with no community consultation whatsoever, yet council has
the arrogance to make a wish list of what the council wants from state
government, the industry and CSG opponents,” said Eric van Beurden of
RVGAG.

“It’s not really a position statement at all- it’s an arrogant wish
list of what the council wants the other stake holders to do and the
requests are so undeliverable they are patently silly,” he said.

“Grass roots surveys conducted in localities in the Richmond Valley
show that support for keeping the valley free from coal seam gas
operations is currently running at over 80%, with ‘Gasfield Free
Communities’ already declared in Tatham,Greenridge,
Bungawalbyn,Whiporie and Dobie’s Bight /Dyraaba.”

“To suggest that local communities should cohabit with rather than
oppose the coal seam gas industry insults the overwhelming desire of
residents to ensure that our food producing land, natural areas and
water resources are not placed at risk, and that public health, and
existing agricultural and tourism industries are protected from an
unsafe, short term industry.”

“No one wants to live in or visit an industrialised landscape, so
to have council suggest that residents should simply accept a
polluting industry in their backyards is a slap in the face of
democracy,” concluded Mr. van Beurden.

“In this statement Richmond Valley Council effectively washes its
hands of its duty to represent the interests and concerns of local
residents by passing the responsibility to all other stakeholders,”
said Lock the Gate spokesperson, Boudicca Cerese.

“The requests of state government in Council’s position statement
clearly highlight how the government’s land use policies fail to
implement any meaningful constraints or controls on this unsafe
industry.”

“The state government has repeatedly refused to listen to local
governments on this issue, disregarding calls from local councils
across the state to implement a moratorium on this risky, unproven
industry, so it is unlikely that they are going to start listening now.”

“Whilst the position statement makes a damning indictment of past
behaviours from Metgasco, any new request from Council to lift their
game seems unlikely to achieve success when their obviously close
relationship with the company to date has failed to hold them to
account.”

“In recent weeks this company has vilified local residents exercising
their right to protest in the Clarence Valley LGA and attacked the
democratic voice of community opposition in the Lismore LGA, so we
would be very surprised if they are going to take these voluntary
requests from RVC seriously.”

“Overall this statement makes it clear that once again it is left to
communities to take peaceful direct action to defend what is most
precious to them because most elected representatives at all levels of
government are failing to do so,” Ms. Cerese said.

 Subject: Metgasco Drill Rig

Hi all,

Here's an update on Metgasco's drilling antics.

The people (about 30) blocked the drill rig and other vehicles in at
Metgasco's property at Casino today using their vehicles. Despite
police requests to remove the vehicles, which were complied with,
fresh vehicles moved in and people blocked the gate (this time to keep
them in !).

Time rolled on and ultimately Metgasco seems to have abandoned another
day's drilling.

Assistance is again requested for  people to come to the Metgasco
office at Bruxner Highway on the east side of  Casino (next to the
Clydesdale Motel)  to help keep the rig from leaving Casino for
Glenugie tomorrow morning (Wednesday 12th). Please arrive at 6am.

If you would like to check if the rig has left during the night before
leaving for the Metgasco property at Casino, you could call the 3am -
6am phone number below:

A vigil has been organised throughout the night tonight.

Phone numbers for tonight are:

:  6pm - 9pm     0437132746           9pm - 12pm    0431284741
   12pm - 3am     0411794612         3am - 6am      0427631457

Thank you for your support

Media Release    Monday 10th

Lock the Gate president to visit Glenugie blockade site

Lock the Gate Alliance president, Drew Hutton, will be visiting and
participating in the blockade at Glenugie, near Grafton, with coal
seam gas company Metgasco about to force its way onto a property.

About 100 local residents and their supporters from across the region
today refused company representatives entry to the site. A small
number of police were on hand.

Mr Hutton said he expected the company to attempt to enter the site in
the morning with more drilling equipment and accompanied by a larger
police presence.

"A large group of Northern Rivers residents who are committed to
non-violent civil disobedience to protect the community from this
industry are expected to be present at the gate of the property in the
morning," Mr Hutton said.

"The whole of the Northern Rivers is committed to stopping coal seam
gas from destroying their region so this will be the first of many
blockades we will see in this part of the state."

To get to the Glenugie site follow the following instructions:

Drive through Grafton to South Grafton, then turn right (south) onto
the highway (as if you were going to Coffs Harbour). Eight Mile Lane
is about 13km from Grafton (i.e. 8 miles). It is clearly signposted as
the turn off to Wooli and Minnie Water. On Google Maps, Avenue Road is
call “Golden Mile Road”. The site is on your left, about 1.3km from
the corner of Avenue Road with Eight Mile Lane.
